Dr. Mihai-Daniel Chiroiu is an Associate Professor in the Computer Science Department at the University POLITEHNICA of Bucharest (UPB), where he specializes in networking and cybersecurity. He defended his Ph.D. in Computers and Information Technology at UPB in 2014 with a dissertation titled “Secure and Client-Controlled Resource Access”. Dr. Chiroiu has a strong commitment to education, teaching courses in networking and security, and overseeing the Auditor in Cybersecurity program. He has also been the coordinator of the local Cisco Networking Academy. Since 2024, he has been the program manager for FIRST Lego League Romania, contributing to STEM education initiatives.
Dr. Chiroiu has a strong research background, having published more than 30 articles in prestigious conferences and journals, including USENIX Security and ACM CCS. His work has earned him recognition, including the Best Paper Award at ASIACCS 2015. His research has had a real-world impact, resulting in four CVEs granted by Apple to a team he was part of for discovering critical vulnerabilities. Additionally, he has served as a reviewer for prestigious international conferences and journals. His research interests span network security, operating systems security, usable security, and mobile security.
Beyond academia, Dr. Chiroiu has significantly contributed to the entrepreneurship ecosystem through his involvement with Innovation Labs. He also runs RUMI SOLUTIONS SRL, a company providing professional training in networking and security, having trained over 500 people in the last three years. RUMI SOLUTIONS is a CompTIA Authorized Partner, with clients from Poland, Czech Republic, and Romania. He holds several industry certifications, including CCNP Security, CompTIA CySA+, Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH), and GIAC Systems and Network Auditor (GSNA).
