PhD in Systems Engineering (Summa cum laude)
Dragos Popescu is Professor in Control Engineering and Advanced Control Systems. His research interests include intelligent control systems, complex systems theory and modelling, cyber-physical systems, real time optimization, machine learning, image processing and robotics.
“As far as the laws of mathematics refer to reality, they are not certain; and as far as they are certain, they do not refer to reality.”
Dragos Popescu has studied control engineering at the Faculty of Automatic Control and Computers, University Politehnica of Bucharest, where he received his B.Sc., M.Sc. and Ph.D. in 2014, 2015 and 2020, respectively. From 2022 to 2023 he was a Postdoc research fellow with the National Centre for Brain Research of the Romanian Academy. He is currently Assistant Professor with the Department of Automatic Control and Systems Engineering and Research Engineer with the Extreme Light Infrastructure – Nuclear Physics. His Ph.D. Thesis focused on the development of a new modelling formalism aimed towards complex systems that is fusing together Boolean algebra, statistical inference and graph representations. His research interests and projects covered a broad area of topics including robotics, image processing, machine learning, control and optimization algorithms, complex systems modelling, data science and signal processing, high-power lasers experimental physics and human brain modelling.
